1951, Feb. 6
Official name of CCF changed from China's Children Fund to Christian Children's
Fund, recognizing the growing worldwide focus of CCF.
1957, Spring
In Hong Kong CCF opens "Children's Garden," a special dream
of Mrs. Clarke. The largest cottage-plan orphanage in the Far East, with
65 cottages housing more than 1,000 children, this was the culmination
of CCF's direct property acquisition and development.
1958
Dr. and Mrs. Clarke received by Madame Chiang Kai-shek at Presidential
Residence in Taiwan; Verent Mills, Overseas Director located in Hong Kong,
is transferred to CCF headquarters in Richmond.
1960
Christian Children's Fund of Canada formed as the first affiliated national
program outside the United States.
1960, Spring
CCF is assisting 36,000 children around the world with annual gifts from
more than 100,000 individuals.
1961, October
Publication of Yankee Si! The Story of Dr. J. Calvitt Clarke and His 36,000
Children. CCF assists 36,000 children in 50 countries at 429 projects
(including 93 in Korea, 60 in Japan, and 17 in Hong Kong).
1963, Dec. 10
Dr. and Mrs. Clarke, due to their advancing ages submit their resignations;
Verbon E. Kemp, Executive Director of the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce,
replaces Clarke as the second Executive Director of CCF.
